Training can be provided for a wide range of subjects and needs. Existing courses can be adapted or new courses developed depending on needs. The list provides an illustration of available courses, but in practise these are best adapted to the clients needs. Support in the form of training needs assessment taking a broad capacity development approach can be provided.
All training is adapted to local needs, is based on extensive field experience and aims to maximize experiential learning – a focus on learning by doing and sharing of experience.
Small scale training can be organized directly by Forbes Davidson Planning. Training requiring a multi-disciplinary approach can be organized with partners such as the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
- Strategic Urban planning: Focus on participative strategic and action planning. 3-5 days participative learning games based on real cases allows the depth of reality combined with the ability to adapt scenrios to better fit training needs. These courses have been run in many situations and prove both useful and popular. (1-10 days)
- Urban upgrading: Introductory and advanced courses based on in-depth field experience. A focus on the inter-relationship between spatial and physical design decisions and the institutional and financial framework. A focus is on the often conflicting demands between market awareness and the needs of the poor within the broader system. (1-5 days)
- Development and funding organizations: A one week module on understanding development agencies and the issues involved in getting good value out of available support while building the foundations for sustainable funding and management.(1-4 days)
- Urban and Regional Policy: Understanding and analyzing policy as a basis both for policy work and the use of policy in planning and management (1-5 days)
- Integrated development: Integration is easy to say, but difficult to achieve. This course starts with understanding the dynamics of integration and works through practical tools to develop means of gaining the benefits while increasing the chances of success through strategic approaches.
